Our mandate is to protect the public interest by monitoring and regulating the practice of psychology and ABA. Through the participation of the public and the profession, CPBAO ensures the delivery of safe, competent, and ethical professional psychological and ABA services from qualified providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPBAO is governed by a Board made up of both elected professional members and government-appointed members of the public. The Board&rsquo;s work is supported by its Committees. <strong>CPBAO is seeking applications for appointment to these Committees.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991<\/em>, requires the College to have seven Statutory Committees: Executive; Registration; Inquiries, Complaints and Reports; Discipline; Fitness to Practice; Quality Assurance; and, Client Relations. The Executive Committee is elected from the members of the College Council. The other Committees are composed&nbsp;of both professional and public members of the College Council as well as College members who are not on Council. All titles,&nbsp;<em>Psychologist<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Psychological Associate<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Behaviour Analyst<\/em>&nbsp;are represented on every Committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in serving on a Committee for this year, we are interested in hearing from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>HOW DO I APPLY?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong>&nbsp;Complete the&nbsp;<em><strong>Committee Orientation and Training Module<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/em>This module discusses the role and governance of the College and the duties, obligations and expectations of Committee members. Upon completing the orientation, members will be required to submit a declaration attesting to the completion of the module. This module should take approximately 1 hour to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"http:\/\/share.articulate.com\/zBfFr4sFmqADo4DXuz6bd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COMMITTEE ORIENTATION &amp; TRAINING MODULE<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong>&nbsp;Submit a&nbsp;<em><strong>Committee Appointment Application Form<\/strong><\/em>. In addition to indicating your preferred Committee choices, you are asked to provide a brief statement outlining your background, experience, and interest as well as relevant qualifications for the Committees selected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"http:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/r\/FB55C3P\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COMMITTEE APPOINTMENT APPLICATION FORM<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>SUBMISSION DEADLINE<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#dfecf3\">Applications must be submitted by <strong>May<\/strong> <strong>1, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHY GET INVOLVED?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Involvement on CPBAO Committees provides registrants with an opportunity to take an active role in the self-regulation of the profession. Members provide useful insight to Committee discussions by drawing upon their knowledge, expertise in psychology, ABA and individual diversity. Committee members have a direct voice in determining policies, programs and services that ensure safe and effective delivery of psychological and behaviour analysis services. &nbsp;During their one-year term, members will enhance their understanding of the inner workings of College governance and its processes and have an impact on how the professions are regulated. Becoming a Committee member is not only an opportunity to take part in important decision-making but also to learn new skills and become a leader in these professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Committee participation may be counted toward one\u2019s Continuing Professional Development requirement, Section C \u2013 Additional Professional Development Activities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHO SHOULD APPLY?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We are looking for registrants who are willing to dedicate time to participate on a Committee and who wish to assist in making decisions that reflect CPBAO&rsquo;s mandate to protect public interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CPBAO strives to establish Committees that reflect ethics and human rights and to benefit from broad and varied points of view. We encourage you to review the following resource for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/cpbao.ca\/cpo_resources\/board-and-committees-competency-and-suitability-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Board and Committees Competency and Suitability Profile<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO BE APPOINTED TO A COMMITTEE?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In accordance with the College&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/cpbao.ca\/cpo_resources\/by-laws-effective-july-1-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">By-law 19: Appointment of Non-Council Members to Committees of the College and Conditions for Disqualification<\/a>,<\/em>&nbsp;a member is eligible for appointment to a Committee if, on the date of the appointment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the member practices psychology and\/or applied behaviour analysis in Ontario or resides in Ontario;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member is not in default of payment of any prescribed fees;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member\u2019s certificate of registration has not been revoked or suspended in the six years preceding the date of the appointment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member is not, and has not been, within one year before the date of the appointment, a director, officer, board, committee, or staff of any professional association involved in the advocacy of the professions;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member does not hold, and has not held, within one year before the date of the appointment, a position which would cause the member, if appointed as Committee member, to have a conflict of interest by virtue of having competing fiduciary obligations to both the College and another organization;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member has not been an employee of the College (whether on contract or permanent, on a full-time or part-time basis) for at least one year preceding the appointment; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the member\u2019s certificate of registration has not been subject to a term, condition, or limitation as a result of a disciplinary action in the two years preceding the date of the appointment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Executive Committee takes the following into consideration when making appointments to Committees:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ethics and human rights<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Location of practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nature of practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Populations served<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience \u2013 a mix of returning and new members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professional competencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>HOW LONG DO COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS LAST?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ebdacf\">The term for Committee appointments is&nbsp;<strong>one (1) year<\/strong>, open to renewal subject to the Committee&rsquo;s terms of reference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appointments will be made by the Executive Committee following the&nbsp;<strong>June 19, 2026, Council Meeting<\/strong>. Successful applicants will be notified thereafter. Every appointment to a Committee automatically expires at the first meeting of Council of the following year (June 2027).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"committee-time-commitment\"><strong>WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Committees meet on weekdays during regular business hours. All meetings are scheduled in advance with consultation with members on availability. Currently, all meetings are being held virtually; however it is hoped that in-person meetings will resume this year.&nbsp; Upon the return to in-person meetings, the College will offer a hybrid model with the option available for members to attend virtually, should they wish to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to attendance at meetings, Committee members are required to prepare for each meeting by reviewing a meeting package and any other related materials provided in advance of the meeting. Adequate preparation is critical to ensure full participation and meaningful contribution to discussions and informed decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of Committee meetings and panels held per year varies depending on the Committee. Below is a brief description of each Committee\u2019s role and composition and an estimate of the time commitment required.&nbsp; The availability of a computer\/laptop is required as meeting documents are delivered electronically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"registration\"><h2 id=\"at-189130\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">REGISTRATION COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189130\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Registration Committee is composed of at least three professional and three public members of the College Council, and at least two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; This Committee reviews applications for registration referred by the Registrar, to determine whether the College requirements for registration have been met.&nbsp; It also directs the Registrar respecting the issuance of Certificates of Registration and any terms, conditions, or limitations to be imposed. In addition, the Committee reviews and advises on policies and guidelines related to College Registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each member of the Registration Committee is assigned to one of two panels and may expect to attend meetings every six to eight weeks. Generally, the full Committee meets for a half day plenary session. This is followed by a half day meeting of one panel with the other panel meeting for a half day on the following day. Committee members are expected to allocate time for reviewing registration files prior to panel meetings; some of which may be very large.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"icrc\"><h2 id=\"at-189131\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">INQUIRIES, COMPLAINTS AND REPORTS COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189131\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee is composed of at least two professional and three public members of the College Council, and two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; This Committee investigates complaints and reports regarding the conduct, capacity, or competence of members. The Committee also reviews and advises on policies and guidelines related to investigations and resolutions. &nbsp;Each member of the Committee is assigned to a panel and may expect to attend four or five full meetings during the year.&nbsp; Additional brief virtual meetings are scheduled as needed. Committee members are expected to allocate time for reviewing files which may be very extensive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"discipline\"><h2 id=\"at-189132\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189132\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Discipline Committee is composed of at least six professional members and four public members of the College Council, and at least two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; Committee members are appointed to panels, as needed, to conduct Discipline Hearings at which allegations of professional misconduct or incompetence, referred by the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee, are heard. If appointed to a Discipline hearing panel, Committee members are required to serve as needed for the duration of the hearing. These typically last for one day but could, in complex cases, last longer. Members are consulted as to their availability before being appointed to a Discipline panel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"fitness-to-practice\"><h2 id=\"at-189133\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">FITNESS TO PRACTICE COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189133\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Fitness to Practice Committee is composed of at least two professional members and one public member of the College Council, and at least two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; This Committee hears matters related to a member\u2019s fitness to practice that are referred by the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee. If appointed to a Fitness to Practice hearing panel, Committee members are required to serve as needed for the duration of the hearing. Members are consulted as to their availability before being appointed to the hearing panel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"quality-assurance\"><h2 id=\"at-189134\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189134\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Quality Assurance Committee is composed of at least two professional members and one public member of the College Council, and at least two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; It is responsible for the continued development and implementation of the Quality Assurance Program including monitoring members\u2019 completion of the Self-Assessment Guide and Professional Development Plan and Continued Professional Development requirements, and the Peer Assisted Review process. &nbsp;It also advises on policies and guidelines related to Quality Assurance. This full Committee meets four or five times per year, in person or virtually. In addition, members appointed to this Committee may expect to attend half-day panel meetings four or five times per year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"client-relations\"><h2 id=\"at-189135\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">CLIENT RELATIONS COMMITTEE<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189135\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The Client Relations Committee is composed of at least two professional and two public members of the College Council, and at least two members of the College who are not on Council.&nbsp; The Committee advises the Council on the College\u2019s Client Relations Program including measures for preventing sexual abuse of clients by practitioners. The Committee also administers the College\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Funding for Therapy or Counselling Program for Patient\/Client Victims of Sexual Abuse by a Member<\/em>. In addition, it also develops educational materials for members, guidelines for the conduct of members with their clients, training for College staff and the provision of information to the public. This Committee meets two to three times per year, in person or virtually, with additional brief meetings to consider applications for the funding program when necessary. Development work is typically done between meetings.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\" id=\"fac\"><h2 id=\"at-189136\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\">FINANCE AND AUDIT COMMITTEE (NON-STATUTORY)<\/h2><div id=\"ac-189136\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>This non-statutory Committee assists the Council in fulfilling its fiduciary duties of overseeing the College\u2019s finances, ensures that financial statements are reasonable and that internal controls are adequate. The Committee is composed of the College President, one professional and two public members of Council and one professional, non-Council member.&nbsp; The Finance and Audit Committee does the initial review and approval of the draft annual budget meets with the auditor to review the audited financial statements and discuss any recommendations arising. In performing its role, the Finance and Audit Committee reviews and makes recommendations to Council regarding the College\u2019s banking practices, investments, levels of approval and disbursement procedures relating to purchased goods and services, major capital budget and facilities expenses and any other matters related to financial policies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>ARE COMMITTEE MEMBERS COMPENSATED?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Committee members are volunteers although there is a per-diem for meeting attendance and some meeting preparation. Members also are reimbursed for expenses such as travel, meals and accommodation, should this be necessary, in accordance with the College\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Per Diem and Council and Committee Compensation Policy&nbsp;<\/em>and the<em>&nbsp;Expense Reimbursement Policy<\/em>.
