{"id":8764,"date":"2020-12-21T16:48:24","date_gmt":"2020-12-21T20:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cpbao.ca\/covid-19-information-for-members-december-21-2020\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T13:49:33","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T17:49:33","slug":"covid-19-information-for-members-december-21-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cpbao.ca\/fr\/covid-19-information-for-members-december-21-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Information for Members &#8211; December 21, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Monday, December 21, 2020, Premier Doug Ford announced the details of a provincewide shutdown to come into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp; As noted in the government <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/en\/release\/59790\/ontario-announces-provincewide-shutdown-to-stop-spread-of-covid-19-and-save-lives\">News Release<\/a>, these \u201cadditional restrictions will be put into place and reinforce that Ontarians should stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The News Release provides a link to a detailed summary published by the Ministry of Health, <a href=\"https:\/\/files.ontario.ca\/moh-provincewide-shutdown-en-2020-12-21.pdf\"><em>Provincewide Shutdown \u2013 December 21, 2020<\/em><\/a>.&nbsp; In describing \u201cBusinesses Permitted to Open and Sector Specific Restrictions\u201d the section on <em>Health care and social services<\/em> lists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regulated health professionals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Professionals or organizations that provide in-person counselling services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organizations that provide health care including retirement homes, hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, independent health facilities and mental health and addictions counselling supports<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While this shutdown will have an impact on many businesses across the province, there were no changes announced which would specifically affect regulated health professionals.&nbsp; As a result, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/cpbao.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Directive-2-May-26-2020-copy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Directive #2<\/a>&nbsp;from the Chief Medical Officer of Health remains unchanged at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As noted in previous updates, the College continues to recommend that members provide services virtually when this can be done effectively.&nbsp; When in-person service is necessary, members must continue to have employ adequate COVID-19 safeguards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The provincewide shutdown was instituted in an effort to stem the rising community spread of COVID-19.
